Friday Musings

Happy Friday Y’all!

I can always tell when Spring has arrived because the azaleas are blooming and my car is entirely covered in green pollen.

As I sit here at my office computer, I can’t help but wonder if I started my tomato seedlings a little too early this year. Womp womp. They are the size of large transplants now, ready to go into the garden, BUT I checked the 10 day weather forecast and looks like the temps will be dipping into the 40’s next weekend….. Just when you think you have it all figured out the doubt starts to creep in.

Part of me wants to go ahead, plant out my tomatoes anyway and just pray for the best. Which is what I think I’m going to do. This fabulous gardener I follow on Facebook has already planted her tomatoes out in the garden. She plants by the moon and whenever I’ve followed her in the past I’ve had great success. Alas, I missed the dates when she planted because my tomato seedlings weren’t ready yet.

Another thing that I find difficult is hardening off transplants so that they can withstand the outside conditions. Does anyone else find this hard? They say to start putting them outside every day for small periods of time until they can stay out a full day without wilting.

Now, what did I do, instead? When I got home from work yesterday, I put my tomato plants outside (planning to leave them out for only a few hours). Completely FORGOT they were out there. It is now the next day and I am typing this from my office computer. The tomatoes are still outside…. I hope they aren’t dead.

Gardening has a way of teaching you patience and what it means to ultimately fail. You put all of the time, work, and energy into caring for your plants. Just for them to die. Whether it be pest, disease, or user error.

You’ve got to pick yourself up by the bootstraps and continue on.

March on my fellow gardeners.

We got this.
