Vegetable Varieties I’m Growing in 2023

Can you see it? The future?
Standing in the garden, early morning, with your harvesting basket. As you pick tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. Filling your basket to the brim. What recipe will we make today? A caprese salad, I suppose. Or maybe some homemade salsa. The possibilities are endless.

Let’s be honest….this probably won’t happen.

A girl can dream though, can’t she?

Every year I say I’m not going to try and grow ALL the things, but just try to grow a few things and grow them well.

I can’t help myself.

I. want. it. all.

Anyways, back to the topic I wanted to talk to you, dear reader, about: all of the vegetable varieties I’m growing in the garden this year.

My primary focus will be tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. I want to really dial in and learn how to grow these things well. However, there are many other vegetables I’d like to grow too. Some of the varieties you will see listed below are heirloom varieties, but most of them are hybrid varieties that are bred to do well here in our south Louisiana climate.

So without further ado, let’s get into it.

I hope this list of vegetable varieties was helpful to you in some way, shape, or form. I know it can be daunting to think about what to plant and where to even begin.

If you’re wondering where to order seeds. I’ve had luck from the following places:

– my local garden center (shoutout Clegg’s nursery)
Survival Garden Seeds

Baker Creek

Johnny’s

Well, it’s Friday, my friends, and I am so ready for the weekend. Tomorrow, I plan on ripping out the remainder of my cabbage patch and replacing it with Red LaSoda and Yukon Gold potatoes. I’ve been trying to plant by the moon like many farmers have done throughout history and so far it’s been working wonders. I’d highly recommend it.

P.S. If you live around here and have had luck with a certain variety, please let me know!! I am always trying to learn more and find varieties that I can rely on with our crazy, hot weather.

Happy planting!
